Hoxton Park Airport Closing |
On the 27th October 2008, Hoxton Park Airport will be closed. Unfortunately, this loss will affect the aviation community and makes pilot training very inconvenient within the Sydney basin. Due to the distances we need to travel to either Bankstown, or Camden, wanna be Sydney pilots will have to think twice about pilot training.

FREE photo quality scenery for Australia released for Flight Simulator 2004 |
For those of us lucky enough to call Australia home, we know what a hot, dry, brown, yellow and red summer we experience from December through February (and sometimes lingering through March).
Despite the huge advances in Microsoft's wonderful Flight Simulator, the seasonal changes tend to be very northern hemisphere focused, and our summer looks more like our winter.
So this is why the Vista Australis project was born: for all those Aussies who love to fly for real and also sim downunder, and all our overseas friends (and there are many), who'd like to experience what our Great South Land is REALLY like to fly over in summer too.

Aviation Identification and Photo Licence & ASIC's |
NEWSFLASH for ASIC Applications (7 July 2005): "Wait around 4 weeks as the system for getting as ASIC is changing. The new system shouldnt require us to have direct contact with these RPT airports to apply for an ASIC. The system is being streamlined to make it more accessible for people such as Recreational Pilots." says Tracey from www.dotars.gov.au/transsec/atsa . Watch this website for more info or visit dotars.gov.au directly.
Recreational (Ultralight) Pilots should apply for an ASIC only for access to security controlled airports. Read the facts on ASIC's (Aviation Security Industry Cards). Airports issuing ASICs are listed here. You must have your ASIC ready before 1 Jan 2005 for access to RPT airports.
For PPL or CASA issued licence holders most information can be found at CASA Licencing Direct. You will require a Aviation Identification and Photo Licence by 01 Jan 2006 in addition to an ASIC.
Simply, the new Aviation Identification (previously called a Flight Crew Identification) still requires you to have the seperate ASIC if you wish to access a security controlled airport. Passengers do not need as ASIC if they are escorted by an ASIC holder. To apply for an Photograhic Licence and Aviation Identification use Form 639
