Site Upgrade Issues

We have now completed Stage 2 of the site upgrade which entailed the upgrading of all software

Please enter any issues that you are having in this thread, you never know but others may also be experiencing the same issue but suffering in silence - I can't fix something that I don't know is wrong. If you can't post please use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of each page.

I will respond to every single issue by editing your issue post and answering in red

Also note:
There is still some work to do tidying everything up and some data is still to be migrated as this needs to be performed manually like the user classifieds.

Thank you for your understanding as we are making the Recreational Flying site even better.

Stage 3 will be cleaning everything up, deleting redundant files and separating the news and magazine into its own area however Stages 1 & 2 were the biggest steps...from here on any changes made are relatively minor in the scheme of things.

On th mobile
The biggest issue is with the wrapping of the long menu / sub menus at the top as you get overlapping selections so there are pages you cannot get to. The ones with less menu items work fine. Normal web page use is better than mobile page if it works fine. And mostly it does

Ray, as discussed on the phone I will have a look at creating a "lite" version of the current scheme somewhere half way between a text only and the current view. I think this will also help those users on a slow internet connection

The Forums are now finished and working well...so I believe

I am now working on the site home page so if there is anything that you would like to see displayed on there then please let me know...this will help to make the site what you want it to be

The "mark forums read" button doesnt seem to be working, it wont remove old posts, i get about 5000 posts every time i log on.

The Downloads Section is completed and the data migrated from the old site.

Please, if you have any files that you think may help others, manuals, operating instructions, fact sheets, how to's...anything...then why not upload them into the "Downloads Section" (Multimedia -> Downloads) for everyone to make use of...thanks

Chat Room List of Users is now working...you can now see the users that are in the chat room displayed in the "What's Going On" box towards the bottom of the main forums page

All the blogs have now been manually transferred from the old site so have a look at them...there are some great entries in there. Remember to start your own Blog all you have to do is go to the Blogs section and click "Create New Post" on the right side of the page. This will start your Blog off where you can add what you have been doing, a build log, training log...anything but don't forget to go through your blog settings (on your blog page) to set it up the way you want it.

There isn't much left that has to be transferred now...the Google Map Airfields will take some time as an entire new application has to be developed for that as the old one will not work on this site.

The new Magazine section is still to be completed along with the Home Page plus some operational/presentation modifications to some of the other sections.

I have turned on the "Enhanced" image attachment feature of the new software and updated the sticky thread in the "Announcements and Site News" thread of how to insert attachments in your posts/threads.

To start using the Enhanced mode you will need to turn it on in your settings - this is explained in the above updated sticky thread.

Am I alone in missing the "location" information previously shown on a posters profile beneath the avatar?

It disappeared at some stage of the changeover and I have to say I found it interesting and also easier to work out where someone hailed from. By way of example, I fly mostly from Boonah at present, but that gives very little indication (other than probably SEQ) of where I spend my time for the other 6 days of the week. Some posters also have something like "farm strip" or similar for airfield which tells us even less. Was it a conscious decision to eliminate this info or would the software not support another line?
